ALERT for Mud-Out Units: Illinois Flooding

 In Disaster Relief

Updated 8-17-17: Illinois Baptists report that they have had a good response to their need for assistance with flood recovery (mud-out), and expect to conclude their work before the end of August. One SCDR unit leader had planned to take a unit to Illinois, but was unable to get enough team members and had to cancel.

Original post 8-3-17: Due to severe flooding in mid-July, Illinois Baptist Disaster Relief has asked for assistance from other states. The area in need is Lake County, IL which is just north of Chicago. Mud-out units are needed beginning August 7, through the end of August.

South Carolina mud-out Unit Leaders are urged to gather a team and notify the SC DR office of your available dates. Mud-out volunteers, please contact your Unit Leader to let them know of your availability to serve.

Illinois DR leaders say, “We currently have help from MO, TN, and KY. Ohio, Indiana, Michigan have their hands full. We have been blessed by volunteers, but we need more assistance.”

Numbers as of July 31, 2017:

  • 300 Job Requests
  • 60 assessed
  • 6 complete

Mud-out units going to Illinois should include an assessor and chaplain, and each unit should also bring 2 people to cook for the team. If your mud-out unit can go, the SC DR office will assist with assigning cooks, an assessor, and a chaplain to go with you.

Illinois sent several really good units to help SC after Hurricane Matthew – let’s reciprocate if at all possible!
