SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year we offer a number of scholarships for students who intend on pursuing ministry careers. The Church Related Vocation Scholarship is for undergraduate students, and the Richard Furman Scholarship is for graduate students.

Church Related Vocational Scholarship
Undergraduate Students

APPLICATION DEADLINE: August 15th

Qualifications for Church-Related Vocational Scholarship

  • An active member of a South Carolina Southern Baptist Church, a Baptist Collegiate Ministry Group, or attending a South Carolina Baptist University.
  • Affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
  • Church or ministry recommendation. (Southern Baptist missionary dependents whose parent(s) list South Carolina as their home state will be eligible for the scholarship.)
  • Enrolled full-time in a South Carolina college/university accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
  • A calling to a Church Related Vocation.
  • Financial Need.
  • Student must be classified as a full-time student and maintain a grade point average of “C” or its equivalent.

Note: Scholarships are determined by financial need and sent directly to the school to be applied to tuition and academic fees. Those receiving the scholarship will be informed by letter. The application must be submitted each year.

Important: Before completing the online application, please download and print a ministry recommendation form. Have your ministry complete it and mail signed originals to the address on the form. A completed ministry recommendation is mandatory for first-year applicants to be considered for a scholarship award.

In order to complete the application, you will need to have your church name and address as well as your pastor’s name.

Richard Furman Scholarship
Graduate and Seminary Students

APPLICATION DEADLINE: August 15th

Qualifications for Richard Furman scholarship:

  • A South Carolinian who is an active or watchcare member of a Southern Baptist Convention church, an active member of a Baptist Collegiate Ministry Group or attending one of our six Southern Baptist Seminaries: Golden Gate, Midwestern, New Orleans, Southeastern, Southern or Southwestern in the graduate-level program or one of the three South Carolina Baptist Convention universities (North Greenville, Anderson, or Charleston Southern). (Those in the undergraduate program do not qualify).
  • Approved by their home church in South Carolina.
  • Affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
  • Applicants must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student or Christian Ministry graduate and maintain a grade point average of “C” or its equivalent.
  • Scholarships will be given only to students who are preparing to serve as ministers of churches cooperating with the Southern Baptist Convention or to serve on the boards, agencies, or institutions of State Baptist Convention’s or of the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Scholarships will be given only to students who need assistance in meeting the cost of their seminary tuition and fees.

Note: Applicants will be informed about receipt of the scholarship by letter. Scholarships are sent directly to the SBC seminary or SCBC university to be applied to tuition and academic fees. In order to receive a scholarship, an application must be made each year. These scholarships are not available for doctoral-level students.
