Update: Hurricane Dorian Response & How You Can Help
In North Carolina: For the next several weeks, Disaster Relief mud-out units from South Carolina will assist with the Dorian response on the Outer Banks where storm surge caused flooding.
In the Bahamas: Two SC Baptist DR volunteers assisted in the initial response in the Bahamas. Eddie Fulmer of Bethel Baptist Church, Prosperity was part of an assessment team with Baptist Global Response to help determine immediate and longer-term needs. Dwight Herring of Temple Baptist Church, Ninety Six arranged for the donation and helped to transport 10,000 MRE meals to the Bahamas.
SC Baptist Disaster Relief will partner with the York Baptist Association (YBA) in recovery efforts in the Bahamas. Rev. Mike Wallace of the YBA staff has connections with two pastors in affected areas of the Bahamas, so plans are to work with these pastors to assist their churches and communities. YBA has an excellent track record of ongoing disaster recovery efforts in the Florida Keys (Hurricane Irma) and Puerto Rico (Hurricane Maria).
HOW YOU CAN HELP
- Please pray for the residents of Abaco and Grand Bahamas Islands and for those giving aid.
- Pray for the pastors of Bahamian churches on those islands as they try to minister to their people in the midst of their own losses.
- Pray for clear direction from God for those who are planning next steps in helping those affected by the hurricane.
- Pray that residents of North Carolina and the Bahamas will experience God’s love, and will hear and respond to the gospel, through the Disaster Relief teams that serve them.
Those who would like to contribute to South Carolina’s Hurricane Dorian response are urged to give online or mail checks to SCBC. Your donations will provide materials and supplies needed for recovery efforts and will enable volunteer teams to serve.
