SCBC Names Lee as CAO

The South Carolina Baptist Convention has named Scott Lee as its Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Lee’s newly created position encompasses human resources and administrative needs related to denominational structure. The position represents the convention’s vision to partner with churches and associations to see that every life in South Carolina is saturated with the gospel.

Executive Director-Treasurer Dr. Gary Hollingsworth explains the development of the CAO role as the fourth component of the convention’s Executive Leadership Team, which also includes Associate Executive Director-Treasurer and Chief Strategist Jay Hardwick, Chief Financial Officer Bryan Holley and Hollingsworth.

“A new job description has been written that will continue to include human resources and oversite of operations, but the additional feature is to come alongside of me specifically regarding the ongoing administrative needs of the denominational structure. By that I mean all our convention committees and executive board structural needs,” he says.

Lee comes to the convention from Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia where he has served as the Minister of Music and Worship Arts for the last 10 years. Prior to his church staff experience, Lee was a national manager of a large sales force with Integrity Music and owned a real estate franchise in two locations where he oversaw 30 agents. His combined 40 years serving in music ministry and work experience uniquely prepares him for the CAO role.

“In God’s perfect timing, He has provided this opportunity to serve in an administrative capacity here at the convention helping to give leadership to this great organization and work under the tremendous leadership of Dr. Gary Hollingsworth,” Lee says.

“Scott will bring a balance of both business and administrative acumen along with a wealth of experience in the local church. He is a committed South Carolina Baptist who understands who we are, what we are trying to accomplish and how we operate. This is the perfect combination of the kind of person I have been praying for to lead in this restructured executive position,” adds Hollingsworth.

A Florida native, Lee and his wife Cherie have been married for 40 years and have two adult children. As he looks to the future, he says it is a privilege to serve and contribute in a way that helps South Carolina Baptists accomplish God’s clear expectation through the Great Commission.
