Messengers to 2019 SCBC Annual Meeting Called to “Engage”

The 199th Annual Meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention (SCBC) will be held Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 11-12, at Church at The Mill in Moore, SC. Under the theme “Engage,” messengers representing 2,125 Southern Baptist churches from across the state will gather to worship, conduct business and celebrate ministry accomplishments from the previous year.

New this year, a concentrated meeting format is being offered to increase participation among messengers who are working individuals, church staff members and students. Messengers will be encouraged to engage the culture and local community with the hope of the Gospel. Themed experiences include Lunch & Learn workshops, such as one led by Rod West bringing awareness about sexual abuse in churches, interactive exhibits including a video booth to capture personal stories and a special Tuesday night emphasis on engaging future generations.

“The Annual Meeting is always an encouraging time as we see what God has done during the last year. We will hear from SCBC staff as well as our ministry partners. We elect officers, committees and trustees to help lead us into the future. We pass a budget to ensure that our cooperative ministries are funded and focused on our common goals. We pass resolutions to speak to relevant issues in our culture. Even though these times of discussion and voting represent a small portion of the time that we spend together, they are vitally important to the work of the convention,” says Bryant Sims, SCBC President and Pastor at First Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Greenwood, in an open letter to messengers.

In an effort to help churches advance in fulfilling the Great Commission, SCBC teams will be on site to help churches and church leaders “make their next move” as STRONG churches that SERVE, SHARE, SEND, and START. Messengers to the Annual Meeting will be presented with ministry and mission opportunities to further engage locally and internationally, including a new partnership with East Asia that is expected to be announced.
