DR ALERT – Status Update 10/1/22

We are pleased to report that no in-state response to Hurricane Ian is needed. We can all say a prayer of thanks that South Carolina homeowners were spared from significant damage!

Now our attention will turn to assisting with the response in Florida, so all units remain on ALERT. The initial focus by Florida DR is on getting mass feeding sites opened, with recovery operations to quickly follow. Volunteers from multiple states will be needed over many weeks.

So far, the plan is for SC to partner with Alabama Baptist DR for mass feeding. Alabama has been asked to set up their mobile kitchen in Arcadia, FL. They will complete set-up today and begin serving meals tomorrow (Monday, 10/3). We will send replacement teams to serve on the AL mobile kitchen.

Recovery units will likely be mainly mud-out, with some chainsaw units possibly needed as well. Those teams will of course need to have the support functions (shower/laundry, etc.). As decisions are made and arrangements put in place as to where SC will serve and what is needed, we will post updates here on the web page and share on Facebook (like and follow at facebook.com/scDisasterRelief).

Thank you for supporting the SC Baptist Disaster Relief efforts with your prayers and, when possible, with your giving. Remember, the most helpful way to give is through donating funds – those funds can be turned into supplies, gas, and other items needed to directly help survivors of Hurricane Ian. Donations to SC Baptist DR can be made online or by check. Click on the button below for details on how to give.
