Announcing New Director of SCBC Disaster Relief

New SCBC Director of Disaster Relief Susan Peugh

We are very pleased to announce that Susan Peugh is now the third director in the 33-year history of SCBC Disaster Relief. Peugh (pronounced PEW) is uniquely qualified to lead in DR ministries. At a recent meeting with DR leaders, she stated that she could see God bringing together her various past ministry experiences to bring her to this point.

Peugh says, “Twenty years ago I was asked to respond to the terrorist attacks on New York after 9/11.  I had never seen a disaster and knew virtually nothing about responding to one.  Since then, God has provided multiple opportunities for me to learn about Southern Baptist DR, to meet the most amazing volunteers, and to see how He uses the worst of circumstances to reveal His tender love and care for those who are hurting.”

A native of Aberdeen, Mississippi, Peugh graduated from MS State University and attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. For much of her adult life she has served on staff at the North American Mission Board (NAMB). She started as a missionary in the Northwest U.S., then moved to Atlanta, mobilizing volunteers in missions efforts, including World Changers and disaster relief.

Peugh joined the convention staff on February 1, 2022 upon the retirement of Randy Creamer. He will stay on for an extra month to assist with the transition as the “mantle” of DR leadership is passed.

Peugh is married to David Fox, and the couple recently celebrated their thirteenth wedding anniversary. Camping, traveling with friends, and thrift store shopping are activities Peugh enjoys.

On coming to South Carolina, Peugh reflects, “I have known Randy Creamer as a friend and co-worker for 20 years.  I know he cannot be replaced but I look forward to building upon the legacy he has created through Disaster Relief in South Carolina.”

Welcome, Susan Peugh, to SCBC Disaster Relief!
