Tennessee Tornadoes (updated 3/9/20)

South Carolina and other states are NOT under alert to respond to the middle Tennessee tornadoes. With a very good network of Disaster Relief volunteers themselves, Tennessee DR will determine the extent of their response and activate their own units, requesting help from other states if needed. As always, states only respond across state lines at the request of the affected state’s DR director.

There has been an overwhelming number of spontaneous volunteers showing up to help in the affected areas, making it difficult for relief organizations to proceed in the normal manner of response. TNDR has been able to do chainsaw work in an area west of Nashville that did not receive media attention. Additionally, a feeding unit was called in from Texas (Texas Baptist Men) to assist at a Nashville church that has been trying to feed their community. TNDR expects to expand their recovery operations this week.

Please DO NOT collect items to send to Tennessee unless requested by leaders there. (If items are requested, we will post information here.)

Please pray:

  • For God’s comfort and guidance for the families and businesses whose homes and workplaces have been damaged or destroyed.
  • For first responders searching for survivors, city workers clearing streets, medical personnel caring for the injured, utility employees striving to restore power and other services.
  • That the power exhibited in this disaster will cause people to look to the all-powerful God as their refuge and strength.
  • For Tennessee’s Disaster Relief leaders and volunteers as they provide help, hope, and healing to those affected by the tornadoes.
