Turkmen of Uzbekistan
The Turkmen of Uzbekistan live mostly in the western part of the country, particularly in the Karakalpakstan and Khorezm regions, near the border with Turkmenistan. They are descendants of ancient nomadic tribes and follow Sunni Islam. Their herdsmen identity reflects itself in their livestock skills and traditional clothing,
designed to be practical and durable. They speak Turkmen, Uzbek, and some Russian. Although many Turkmen in Uzbekistan have become integrated into Uzbek society, they continue to maintain their own customs, including traditional music, dance, and cuisine.
