SCBaptist and USC Development Foundation Announce New Construction for Carolina BCM

Construction for a new building for the Carolina Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) will begin in September, following a property exchange agreement with the University of South Carolina’s Development Foundation and the South Carolina Baptist Convention’s executive board.

The current property, located at 817 Main Street, will be swapped for 825 Main Street, where construction of a 16,500-square-foot facility will begin following the demolition of a former Domino’s at the site. According to the USC Development Foundation, the swap will allow the current property to be included in a larger parcelfor future mixed-use development. President and CEO of the USC Development Foundation, R. Jason Caskey, said, “We believe this transaction will be a win-win for both parties.”

BCM exists on college campuses across South Carolina to reach students with the Gospel. Since the ministry’s inception at USC in 1922, Carolina BCM has seen exponential growth. Averaging 282 students each week and engaging over 10,000 students on the campus every year, the new facility will allow for continued growth while maintaining close proximity to campus.

“This arrangement will set us up for several decades of Great Commission and Great Commandment success on the USC campus,” SCBaptist Executive Director-Treasurer Tony Wolfe said. “The Convention’s executive board has been integrally involved every step of the way and has approved this project with much excitement and great expectation.”

Campus Minister Adam Venters has served at Carolina BCM since 2022. He said, “This new facility represents an exciting investment in the future of our mission. We are deeply grateful for the alumni, churches, university partners, and supporters whose faithful commitment has made this moment possible.”

The new facility, which will include a rooftop meeting area and additional parking, is expected to be completed in June 2027.

Associate Executive Director-Treasurer Lee Clamp said, “SCBaptists love college students, and I am thrilled with this opportunity to advance our ministry at USC. It has been a blessing to work with the USC Development Foundation’s leadership to make this dream a reality, and I appreciate their commitment to serving the students of USC.”

More information on the new facility will be shared as it becomes available.
