The South Carolina Baptist Convention is delighted to announce an internal staff promotion. As of October 1, 2019, Jon Jamison was named the Serve Team Leader. This promotion marks the official creation of the Serve Team to join the ADVANCE Ministry Priorities of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, which are Strong (Church Strengthening), Share (Evangelism), Send (Missions Mobilization) and Start (Church Planting). All of which focus on helping churches advance in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Primarily, Jamison works with churches in helping them identify needs and opportunities in their community and then to launch successful ministries within the community.  In keeping with the vision of helping churches fulfill the Great Commission, the SERVE Team will focus on community engagement ministries that will create new connections in which the hope of the gospel can be shared.  These ministries include Heart 4 Schools, Disaster Relief, Hunger, ESL, Orphan Care, and Poverty and Benevolence Ministries.

Jamison says, “Serving Community involves more than meeting physical needs. Effectively serving community is about building relationships and requires true partnership between church and community.” He goes on to say, “Jesus consistently loved and moved toward those on the edges, toward the vulnerable.  I’m excited to lead this team of committed Jesus followers who, likewise, are leading our churches across a host of ministry disciplines in caring for the vulnerable and sharing the love Jesus.”

Before coming to South Carolina, Jon and his wife, Mindy, served for 18 years as missionaries through the North American Mission Board and Baptist Convention of Iowa, as Directors of an inner-city Ministry Center in Des Moines.  Jon and Mindy have a 13-year-old daughter, Maggie.

I’m excited to see how God will use South Carolina Baptists to show and share the gospel as we further align and expand our Serve opportunities under Jon’s leadership,” said Jay Hardwick, Associate Executive Director of the SCBC.
