DR ALERT: Kentucky Flooding

Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief has requested that SC assist with flood recovery after torrential rains caused flooding in eastern Kentucky. This will involve our sending mud-out units, and running a command post to support the units.

Units and volunteers that are needed include:

  • Mud-out
  • Chaplains and assessors (to accompany mud-out units)
  • Cooks (fixed kitchen, not mass feeding)
  • Shower/Laundry
  • Incident Management (ICs, Admins, Operations/Logistics)

The response is expected to last for a month. Early reports from county officials indicate 100 homes are a total loss, with 100 others suffering damage. SCDR volunteers can be a part of bringing help, hope, and healing to the residents there.

Volunteers, please notify your unit leader of your availability. Those not connected to a unit can contact Sue Harmon in the state office to be assigned. Unit Leaders, please contact your team members, determine the dates your unit can serve, and notify Sue at sueharmon@scbaptist.org. We need some units and volunteers that can go immediately, and some that can follow to replace them.

Allen, Kentucky is located on the eastern side of the state, not far from the Virginia/West Virginia ine. Housing for teams will be in a lodge with bunk beds and a commercial kitchen.
