Cliff Marshall Named Church Planting Team Leader for SCBC

The South Carolina Baptist Convention is pleased to announce an internal staff promotion. Cliff Marshall will now serve as the Church Planting Team Leader.

“Cliff Marshall is a proven and respected leader when it comes to church planting in South Carolina. He has planted and led a healthy, multiplying church, trained dozens of church planters all over our state, and helped numerous churches become effective church planting churches,” said Jay Hardwick, Associate Executive Director of SCBC.

Marshall is a South Carolina native, born in Florence and raised in Columbia. He attended Charleston Southern University, where he met his wife, Sherry. He then continued his education at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Cliff and Sherry now have two daughters, Emily and Grace.

“We are blessed to live in a state where the population continues to grow year after year. As we pursue the goal of seeing every life saturated and transformed by the Gospel in this growing state, the need for starting and restarting churches has never been greater. I am humbled and excited to lead the Start Team as we seek to work with churches, pastors, and local associations to create a movement of multiplying churches across South Carolina,” said Marshall.

Cliff served in student ministry for 10 years before beginning in church planting. He began by planting Freedom Fellowship in 2004, which has invested over $100,000 to assist in planting 14 churches. He then joined the SCBC Church Planting team in July 2015.

Hardwick says, “I’m eager to see how God will use Cliff’s leadership, experience, and passion to help more and more of our churches accomplish the Great Commission by starting new work in areas of great need in our state.”
