Thomas H. Westmoreland Summer Music Camp Scholarship
A limited number of $50.00 scholarships will be available for Youth MusicArts Camp, Young Musicians Camp, and Children's Music Mini-Camp. Scholarships are determined by financial need and are applied directly to the cost of the camp.
To apply, please complete the Westmoreland Scholarship Online Application Form or Westmoreland Scholarship Application Form.pdf and send it in by April 30, 2012. Scholarship applicants will be notified by mail by May 15, 2012.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Qualifications
* Youth completing grades 6-12 in the 2011-2012 school year and active in the music ministry of their church.
* Campers are expected to be well behaved, respectful, responsible, cooperative.
Schedule
* Camp begins on Monday with registration at 1:00 PM.
* Concludes with concert on Friday afternoon.
Chaperones
* Competent and mature chaperones MUST be provided for all campers attending.
* One chaperone for every 1-7 boys or 1-7 girls.
* ALL Chaperones must be age 21 or above.
* We cannot register any campers without chaperones being secured and listed on the registration form. Our office is not responsible for securing chaperones.
Worship
Worship is an important part of music camp experiences. There will be a worship service each day.
Choir
Music will be geared to the students abilities.
Instrumental
* Instrumental Ensemble—bring your own band and orchestral instruments.
* Guitar classes
* Praise band

CLASSES
2012 Youth MusicArts Track
Class #1 Offerings

PHOTOGRAPHY
1A. It's A Snap!– Explore resources and basic knowledge to take stunning photos of God's awesome creation.
ART
1B. Make a Worship Banner – Create an astounding visual work showcasing God’s attributes.
1C. Henna Art Witness - Using Henna dye, you will learn to create tattoos which express your faith and provide conversation-starters for witnessing opportunities. (The dye fades away in 2-3 weeks.)
DRAMA
1D. Drama Basics – Develop the foundational skills to free your inner actor – stage movement, facial expression, vocal projection and lots more.
MOVEMENT
1E. Interpretive Movement – The use of body movement to interpret music and lead in worship experiences. This class is for both guys and girls! There will be performance opportunities during the week.
MUSIC
1F. Beginning Guitar – Learn the basic guitar chords and easy chord progressions. You must bring your own guitar.
1G. Keyboard Ensemble – You will learn how to play keyboard instruments as an Ensemble, creating a symphony of keyboard sounds.
1H. Praise & Worship Team 1 (Auditioned) – Two teams will be formed of guitarists, percussionists, a keyboardist and vocalists who will help to lead worship songs during morning celebration. Auditions will be held from 2:30 to 4:00PM on Monday.
1I. Handbells Unleashed - Ring exciting Bell Music without tables and learn new ways to achieve special effects while moving to the music! Your image of bell playing will never be the same. Pick up your bells and walk… to performance opportunities throughout the week.
1J. Drumming Up Business – A percussion ensemble using all kinds of instruments and non-instruments to create a vibe that will resonate through the camp (and through your heart and soul).
TECHNICAL
1K. Let There Be Light - Light brightens everything... especially action, staging, music, and worship. Learn the basics of lighting equipment, theory, and practice so that you can shed some light on the worship experiences at your church and beyond.

PUPPET
2A. Puppets Invade the Streets – You will have a blast learning how puppets can mimic people in both hilarious and serious learning experiences that are portable in your community.
ART
2B. Make a Worship Banner – Create an astounding visual work showcasing God’s attributes.
2C. Henna Art Witness - Using Henna dye, you will learn to create tattoos which express your faith and provide conversation-starters for witnessing opportunities. (The dye fades away in 2-3 weeks.)
DRAMA
2D. Drama for Worship – Discover a variety of dramatic ways to enhance worship with short sketches, interrupters, reader’s theatre, etc. You will have some performance opportunities during the week. (Limit 16)
MOVEMENT
2E. Interpretive Movement – The use of body movement to interpret music and lead in worship experiences. This class is for both guys and girls! There will be performance opportunities during the week.
WORSHIP
2F. The Worship Leading Guitarist – Learn accompaniment patterns and worship song styles. You must have played guitar for at least 1 year before taking this class. You must bring a guitar.
2G. Calling a Truce in Worship Wars - God created worship for Himself, it's not for us! Learn the implications of this theology and how it will revolutionize out lives as worshipers and worship leaders.
MUSIC
2H. Voice Class – Guys and girls will learn the basic fundamentals of singing: breathing, phonation, resonance, articulation, expression. You will also learn proper vocal hygiene for healthy singing. Come prepared to sing a solo in class.
2I. Praise & Worship Team 2 (Auditioned) – Two teams will be formed of guitarists, percussionists, a keyboardist and vocalists who will help to lead worship songs during morning celebration. Auditions will be held from 2:30-4:00PM on Monday.
2J. Praise Orchestra – Band and orchestra instruments come alive in this ensemble that will prepare upbeat worship music then play it in “portable presentations” around campus and in camp worship.
2K. Basic Conducting for Budding Directors - What in the world do those hand motions mean that your director uses? Learn the universal communication of musical directing.
TECHNICAL
2L. Lights Alive - (Class 1K is a pre-requisite for this class!) Develop a dazzling lighting plan using the basic knowledge gained in the first class. In this advanced class, you will develop your own light show and make it happen.

FACULTY
Faculty will include music directors serving Baptist churches and college music teachers. All faculty are well qualified to minister to the musical, spiritual and emotional needs of youth.
COST/REGISTRATION
Register early for SummerSalt 2012!
SummerSalt 2011 filled up before the April 15 deadline
so don't delay in getting your deposits in for 2012.
By April 1, 2012:
Camper/Chaperone- $220 Deposit - $50
After April 1, 2012:
Camper/Chaperone- $230 Deposit - $75
A camp shirt is provided for ALL YMAC campers, for the concert on Friday.

Refund policy: A full refund will be given if a registration is cancelled at least 45 days prior to a conference. One half of the deposit will be refunded for cancellation 44-20 days prior to a conference. There will be no refund if notice of cancellation is received 19 days or less prior to a conference. Unused deposits cannot be applied to remaining balance. This policy is necessary to provide for maximum use of the limited space at WOCC. The balance per person is due upon arrival.
