Chorus, Orchestra, & Praise Team
Audition Requirements

 We request that Audition videos be emailed to us at janetaltman@scbaptist.org or mailed on CD/DVD - We will confirm acceptance of emailed videos.

1. Send a separate Video for each person auditioning. Also, a separate video is needed if auditioning for another section.
2. Recordings/Emails must be labeled with name, address, church, instrument or voice part.
3. A Baptist AllState Registration Form must accompany each audition Video, available at www.scbaptist.org/baptistallstate.htm.  
4. Forms & Auditions may be mailed by November 7, 2011 to: Worship & Music Office, 190 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210

Chorus            Orchestra          Praise Team

CHORUS AUDITIONS

      At beginning of video give your name, your address, your church, and your voice part.
         Answer the following questions:
             1. What groups do you sing with? (church, school, community)
             2. Can you read music?
             3. Can you follow your voice part on the written music?

1. Vocalize using a five note ascending scale starting F,G,A,Bb,C,Bb,A,G,F - continue up by half steps (demonstrate how high you can sing) Sing on syllable "LA"
2. Vocalize using a five note descending scale starting G,F#,E,D,C - continue down by half steps (demonstrate how low you can sing) Sing on syllable "LA"
3. Sing a solo of your choice using piano accompaniment only. A hymn is acceptable.
4. Sing your part on one of the following from hymnal:
        

   Holy, Holy, Holy	When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
   How Great Thou Art	Let All Things Now Living
   Worthy of Worship	I Will Sing the Wondrous Story

             (stanza/verse one - sing your part with accompaniment, and 
              stanza/verse two - sing your part without accompaniment.)

ORCHESTRA AUDITIONS

   At beginning of video give your name, your address, your church, and your voice part.
         Answer the following questions:
             1. How long have you played this instrument?
             2. What group or groups do you play with? (church, school, community)


Strings, Wind and Keyboard instruments:

1. Play the following concert key scales two octaves up and back as appropriate for instrument: 
      G A Bb
2. Play two octave chromatic scale up and back.
3. Play a solo selection of your choosing up to 64 measures. (piano accompaniment only if accompaniment is used.) 

Percussion:

1. (Melodic) play same scales as wind instruments.
2. (Snare) choose 5 of the following rudiments:
     Long roll, single stroke roll, 5, 7, or 9 stroke roll, single and double paradiddle
3. (Timpani) while video is running, tune the following pitches with piano: F-G, A-D, Bb, G. 
   Demonstrate a roll for 12 counts.
4. (Trap Set) In 4/4 time, play “light rock” beat for 32 measures (add fills at measures 8, 16 and 24); 
   repeat in 6/8 time.

Bass Guitar:

1. Play same scales as wind instruments.
2. Play bass line to the hymns “Glorious Is Thy Name” #204 BH91 and “Great Is the Lord” #12 BH91.

Guitar:

1. In 4/4 time “creatively” strum the following chord progression, changing chords every 4 beats:
   G C D Em Am F Dm7 Bb Gm A F#m C#m B E.
2. Play same progression (as above) in 6/8 time.

PRAISE TEAM AUDITIONS

   At beginning of video give your name, your address, your church, and your voice part.
         Answer the following questions:
             1. How long have you played this instrument?
             2. What group or groups do you play with? (church, school, youth or adult band)
             3. Can you read music? (We must have this info from everyone.)
             4. Can you read a lead sheet or chart?

Drum Set
Set video camera where we can see you playing

In 4/4 time, play “light rock” beat for 32 measures (add fills at measures 8, 16 and 24);
repeat in 6/8 time.

In 4/4 time, play “shuffle” beat for 32 measures (add fills at measures 8, 16 and 24)

Include on the video you playing with a group - 1 or 2 min of a song. (praise team from church, school group, etc.)

Note: Please tell us if you can read Concert Band percussion parts.

Bass Guitar
Set video camera where we can see you playing

In the keys of A, E,– In 4/4 time: play 32 measures of a “light rock” groove – add runs and/or fills in appropriate spots.

In the keys F and Bb – In 6/8 time: play 32 measures of a “light rock” groove – add runs and/or fills in appropriate spots.

Play along with a song of your choice – include a verse and a chorus

Include on the video you playing with a group - 1 or 2 min of a song. (praise team from church, school group, etc.)

Rhythm Guitar
Set video camera where we can see you playing

In 4/4 time “creatively” strum the following chord progression, changing chords every 4 beats: E C#m B E A F#m B E
Repeat in 6/8 time

If a chart had the following progression: Eb Ab Eb Bb Cm Bb7 Eb,  how would you play this with a capo? Demonstrate.

Play along with a song of your choice – include a verse and a chorus

Include on the video you playing with a group - 1 or 2 min of a song. (praise team from church, school group, etc.)  
   

Electric Guitar
Set video camera where we can see you playing

In the keys of A, E,– In 4/4 time: Vamp 16 measures of a “light rock” groove – add fills in appropriate spots.

In the keys F and Bb – In 6/8 time: Vamp 16 measures of a “light rock” groove – add fills in appropriate spots.

Demonstrate a lead solo using effects if available  - about 16 measures.

Play along with a song of your choice – include a verse and a chorus and break

Include on the video you playing with a group - 1 or 2 min of a song. (praise team from church, school group, etc.)

Keyboard
Set video camera where we can see you playing

In 4/4 time play the progression on a piano/string pad - add melodic fills where appropriate.    E C#m B E A F#m B E

 Play a praise song of your choice, verse/chorus, with a pad change in appropriate spot.

Include on the video you playing with a group - 1 or 2 min of a song. (praise team from church, school group, etc.) 

Praise Team Singers Auditions
Set video camera where we can see you singing

Vocalize using a five note ascending and descending scale to demonstrate extremes of your range. Sing on syllable “LA”

Sing a solo of your choice using piano or guitar accompaniment only.  A praise song is fine.

Sing your part on one of the following songs: 
   Jesus Messiah (Tomlin), Praise Adonai (Baloche), Blessed Be Your Name (Redman), Beautiful One (Hughes), or Let the Praises Ring (Brewster) 

Include a harmony on the second chorus if you can.

Include on the video you singing with a group - 1 or 2 min of a song. (praise team from church, school group, etc.)
