Young Musicians Camp

This camp for 3-5 graders is an exciting week filled with wonderful opportunities for personal, spiritual, and musical development. These experiences can help strengthen God's Kingdom through the music ministry of your church.
Thomas H. Westmoreland Summer Music Camp Scholarship
A limited number of $50.00 scholarships will be available for Youth MusicArts Camp, Young Musicians Camp, and Children's Music Mini-Camp. Scholarships are determined by financial need and are applied directly to the cost of the camp.
To apply, please complete the Westmoreland Scholarship Online Application Form or Westmoreland Scholarship Application Form.pdf and send it in by April 30, 2012. Scholarship applicants will be notified by mail by May 15, 2012.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Qualifications - Young Musicians Camp is open to children active in your church who are completing grades 3-6 in the 2011-12 school year. Sixth graders, who are still included in their church’s Children’s Ministry, are also eligible.
Chaperones - Churches are REQUIRED to provide competent chaperones, age 21 or older. Send one chaperone of the same gender for every 1-6 boys and 1-6 girls.
Registration - Registration Forms must be completed in full. The deadline for registration is June 13, 2012. A $100 deposit for campers and chaperones must accompany each registration. All registrations received before May 20 qualifies for a $10 total cost discount. Registrations received after June 13 will be assessed a $15 late fee per camper and chaperone. Refund policy: There will be no refund on or after June 13, 2012. Cancellations made in writing by June 13, 2012 will be refunded ½ the deposit amount.
Faculty - Music Camp Faculty includes Ministers of Music, Music Directors and Children’s Choir leaders from across the state. All are qualified musicians and dedicated church leaders who are sensitive to the musical, spiritual and emotional needs of children.
Worship - Worship is an important part of Music Camp. Each day there will be a worship experience tailored to this particular age group. Campers will participate in discussion groups following worship services. Each evening will conclude with a church group devotional led by chaperones.
Choir - All children will sing in the Camp Choir. This year’s musical has been carefully selected and will be appropriate to the musical abilities of 3rd-5th graders.
Classes - Every Camper will take one instrumental and one special interest class. All classes will have a sharing time at the end of the week. A variety of class choices is available. Register early to ensure that campers receive their first choices. Late registrants may not receive their class preferences.
Recreation - Afternoon recreational activities include swimming pool, the White Oak “beach,” crafts, ping pong, videos and fishing (bring your own gear).
First Aid - A medical technician is available at the Conference Center. A doctor is on call and emergency hospitalization is available in nearby Winnsboro.
Special Features - Fun activities are planned for each day of Camp.
Concert - Camp concludes with a concert on Friday at 11:15 AM in the Auditorium.

CLASS OFFERINGS
INSTRUMENTAL
A. Guitar – For those who want to learn to play the guitar. (You MUST bring a guitar to Camp.)
B. Guitar II – For those who are experienced in playing the guitar. Participants must be able to change chords without breaking the strum pattern on these chord changes: G-C-D-G and D-G-A-D. (You MUST bring a guitar to Camp.)
C. Handbells – For campers who would enjoy handbell ringing (no experience necessary).
D. Keyboard – An introduction to learning to play the piano. This class is for those who have NEVER had ANY piano lessons. There is a $9 book fee for this class.
E. Percussion - Learn the basics of playing percussion instruments such as drums, xylophones and orchestra bells. There is a $6 drum stick fee for this class.
F. Recorder – Learn to play the recorder, a pre-band instrument used in schools. Recorders will be available for purchase for $5 each or you may bring your own.
G. Strings – An opportunity to learn to play the violin. This class is for children with NO strings experience. A $10 violin rental fee is required for this class and will be paid at Camp.
SPECIAL INTEREST
L. Balloon Sculpting – Learn the basics of balloon sculpting and how to sculpt several balloon creations. This class has a $10 materials fee which is to be paid at Camp.
M. Balloon Sculpting II - This class is for those who have some experience sculpting balloons. Participants must be able to tie their own balloons and sculpt a fish, dog, and flower. This class has a $10 materials fee which is to be paid at Camp.
N. Banners – Help design and make worship banners for Camp.
O. Beat It! - Make music with a beat using everyday items, boomwhackers, etc.
P. Creative Movement – Interpret songs using singing, creative movement, dowel rods, blacklight, etc.
Q. Drama – Learn to use drama as an expression in worship.
R. Instrumental Exploration - Hands on introduction to various musical instruments.
S. Puppets – Learn how to operate a puppet and produce skits.
T. Takin' It to the Streets – An introduction to activities that cna be used to draw a crowd at Block Parties, on mission trips, outreach, etc. Topics covered include face painting, juggling, plate spinning and illusion

2. Complete the form for EACH Camper and return it to the Worship & Music Office, 190 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC
- or - fax their form to 803.799.1044.
3. Print off the Young Musicians Camp Lodging form. Complete the form for each church group.
4. Make the check for the deposit to: SC Baptist Convention
6. Mail completed form and check to Worship & Music Office, 190 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC
ONLINE PAYMENT WITH CREDIT CARD or CHECK: Available at a later date
1. To pay online with credit card and check, click on Young Musicians Camp online registration. To pay by check, you will need to have the routing number and bank numbers on the check. 2. Print off the Young Musicians Camp Lodging form. Complete the form for each church group. Fax Lodging form to 803.799.1044.

PARTICIPANT FORM to be sent in Confirmation Packets
If you have misplaced your participant form, or registered late and have not received confirmation materials, you will need to print off the WOCC Participant Form. The original document is on 8 1/2 x 14 triplicate paper. You will need to bring THREE (3) copies of this completed form with you to registration. Do NOT mail these forms to the Worship & Music Office prior to camp.
