Woman's Missionary Union

South Carolina Woman's Missionary Union, Auxiliary to South Carolina Baptist Convention exists to challenge churches to discover their missions potential. We exist to assist churches, especially its members – women and men, girls and boys, and preschoolers in missions. The organization is available to equip churches in beginning and strengthening missions education for all ages - preschool - adults in their local church and to assist churches with churchwide missions education.

Woman's Missionary Union

South Carolina WMU is defined by missions. In partnership with Woman’s Missionary Union, Auxiliary to the Southern Baptist
Convention, South Carolina WMU defines missions as what churches do in keeping with the commission of their sovereign Lord to extend their ministry (mission action) and witness beyond themselves to bring all persons to Christ and to glorify God. The primary focus is on those persons outside the walls of the church who have no affiliation with the church and have no relationship with Jesus Christ.

Woman's Missionary Union is undergirded by six missions focus areas. Those are (1) pray for missions, (2) support missions, (3) learn about missions, (4) engage in mission action and witnessing, (5) develop spiritually toward a missions lifestyle, and (6) participate in the work of the church and the denomination.

The first Central Committee in the South, the forerunner to South Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union, was organized at Society Hill in 1875. South Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union was organized in 1902 in Greenville, South Carolina. Since its inception, the sole purpose of the organization has been missions. Throughout the years, organization names have changed, new ministries have begun, but the missions message has remained the same.

South Carolina WMU continues to seek innovative and creative ways to involve more individuals, families, groups, and churches in missions by assisting them in finding their place in missions and passing on that passion for missions.

Camp La Vida

Camp La Vida opened its gates on May 20, 1983. Derived from the Spanish language, “La Vida” translates as “new life”. The Scriptural motto for Camp La Vida is John 1:4 which says, “4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
Camp La Vida is located in the White Oak Community of Fairfield County, South Carolina. Owned and operated by South Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union, Auxiliary to South Carolina Baptist Convention, it has served Southern Baptist churches in our state since 1983.

Summer camps are held each summer at Camp La Vida for WMU organizations. Girls in Action, Children in Action, Acteens, and Youth on Mission camps are held for girls and boys. Mother/Daughter Overnights are also a part of the summer camping program. These missions education camps offer all girls and boys the opportunity to learn more about missions. While attending camp, campers have the experience of meeting North American and International missionaries. Many girls and boys have made professions of faith while attending Camp La Vida. Others have made decisions for future service in missions. Camp La Vida continues to prepare those future workers to go into a world whose fields are “white unto harvest”.

Camp La Vida is also available for use by churches and associations during the fall, winter, and spring months each year.
