Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, SC teaches Vacation Bible School long before summer arrives and long after summer is over. The church offers a day camp for 1st through 6th graders during spring break and Christmas break, as well as during the summer months. The day camp schedule includes VBS in the morning and additional activities in the afternoon.
This spring the children at day camp went on a “Ramblin’ Road Trip” (LifeWay’s VBS). They enjoyed Bible studies, crafts, recreation, and more. The final day of the week included an actual “road trip,” traveling to various sites in the city.
Brenda Willis, the children’s minister at Trinity, plans and directs the day camps. She began using Vacation Bible School curriculum as a basis for a spring break day camp several years ago. By popular demand, the ministry was expanded to include Christmas break and summer day camps.
The day camps attract children from within the church, and also children in the community who do not usually attend church. One child said, “I have never been in church before, but my parents thought this would be a safe place.” His parents have since received Christ as Savior and been baptized as a result of the day camp ministry.
Trinity Baptist has seized the opportunity to meet needs of families by providing a safe, well-supervised, fun place where children learn biblical truths and Christian values. Vacation Bible School is a part of that ministry, not just in the summer, but winter and spring too!
