The world is divided into two haves: The Haves and The Have Nots.
If you are reading this, you're probably not starving. And neither are your children. Your money may not go as far as it used to, and you're probably feeling the crunch of our economic times. Still, you're not hungry. Yet even in America, there are hungry people. And in the developing world, people are starving to death. In a world divided into two "haves" - the "haves" and the "have nots" - we are the "haves." And we have to do something.
Did you know that:
- Over 23,000 people die of hunger-related causes every day?
- Half of the world's people live on less than $2 per day?
- Feeding the hungry is a Christian duty?
- Our "small sacrifices" pay "big dividends" for world hunger?
- 100 percent of every dollar you give to SCBC's World Hunger Relief goes to feed a hungry person?
World Hunger Relief offerings supply food for over 40 pantries and ministries across South Carolina. Last year, we experienced a crisis of sorts with demand far outstripping our funds. We expect even greater demands this coming year, so what you give now is critical to how many people we can feed tomorrow.
Most of us are feeling the pressure of ever-rising gas prices, soaring food costs and economic uncertainity. If it's hard for you, it's even harder for those at the margins of our society. Already our food banks and ministries are seeing a surge in requests that they are struggling to meet. Please consider getting more involved in your church's World Hugner Relief efforts and increasing your contribution.
Hard times call for hard decisions. Pray for God's guidance on this one. The need is there and growing. Are you?
Sunday, October 12, is the day Southern Baptists will focus on the problem of world hunger and what they can do to make a difference, but offerings can be taken any time during the year. All donations given through the South Carolina Baptist World Hunger Relief Offering are used to alleviate hunger. No salaries, ads or delivery costs are paid out of the fund. Your donation is divided in three ways:
-
25% goes to relief ministries of SC Baptist churches and associations.
-
25% goes to relief ministries of the North American Mission Board.
-
50% goes to relief ministries of the International Mission Board.
