Office of Public Policy

markhendrickThe Office of Public Policy

The Office of Public Policy exists to provide information and training for pastors and churches on energizing our people to get involved in the Public Square. Scripture tells us that we are to be salt and light in this world so the Father may be praised. We believe Christians are called to be Salt to create and preserve a climate in which our witness can be effective. We are called to be Light so others can see or become aware of the ethical implications of current critical issues.

As Salt, our office closely monitors current legislation and presents the Baptist viewpoint to members of the SC General Assembly daily during the legislative session. Mark Hendrick, associate director, is willing to meet you or your group to explain the legislative process and how you can be effective in your community and state. We work together with other religious and civic groups to shape policy and affect the language of our state laws.

As Light, we provide information and materials concerning moral, social and cultural conditions in America and, specifically, in South Carolina. Our office tracks state legislation as it deals with social or moral issues that affect individuals, families and churches. Janet Clonts, ministry assistant, looks forward to helping you find the nugget of truth you need to help activate your group.

We offer ourselves as a living resource to you and your church. We invite you to join us as we strive to minister to, witness to, and pray for South Carolina’s elected officials.
