Restore Provides Pastors With Much Needed Break
In order to see every life saturated and transformed by the hope of the Gospel, the South Carolina Baptist Convention must have healthy churches. In order to have healthy churches, we must have healthy pastors! That is the purpose of the Restore weekend recently held at the Sonesta Resort on Hilton Head Island. The 3-day event is designed for pastors and their spouses to have time to get away from the hectic lifestyle of being a pastor. For a few short days, the pastor and his wife don’t have to be “on”. They can relax, be together, go on a date night, worship with fellow pastors and their spouses and enjoy a 5-star resort in one of the most beautiful areas of our state.
The Ministry Development office of the SCBC hosts the event every year. Restore is promoted to key leaders in the churches and encourages them to pay the cost as a way to express appreciation to their pastor and his wife. 75% of those attending the last few years have had their way paid by their respective churches. A pastor’s wife who attended this year shared that a 93-year-old woman in their church called her and told her that she would pay their way if they would attend. “What a blessing it was!” she said. To know that this dear lady cared so much for their health that she was willing to take money out of her fixed income to send them to the conference was greatly encouraging to this couple. Another pastor shared after attending the conference that he was “thoroughly blessed” and encouraged other pastors to attend sharing, “You deserve to go and spend the weekend at Hilton Head.”
The next Restore conference is scheduled to be held February 23-25, 2018 at the Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head.
