Relevant Church Upstate

Relevant Church is a church plant in Reidville, SC, on the west side of Spartanburg County. The story of Relevant Church began with the realization of a hard truth: the church as usual is not working. Serving as youth pastor, associate pastor and senior pastor in typical traditional churches over the past ten years, I came to realize that if the church is going to survive, it must become relevant again. It became clear to me that we must find new ways to communicate the unchanged message of Christ to a rapidly changing culture.

After a full year of prayer and listening to God’s call, it became evident that it was time to step out in faith and start Relevant Church Upstate with an emphasis on expository preaching, relevant music, casual atmosphere, and doing life together. Once we committed to God’s call and stepped out in obedience, God began to open all the doors to make Relevant Church a reality. We were able to secure a building and complete all the legalities to establish Relevant Church Upstate. When it came time to move into the building, God provided a group of 20 people to support the cause of Relevant Church who believed in the vision that God had given me for the community. On Easter Sunday of 2016, we opened the doors for a soft launch with approximately 52 people in attendance.

God has truly blessed Relevant Church to the point that we have almost tripled in size and are about to launch a second service. We have had the opportunity to celebrate four salvations, multiple re-dedications and five baptisms. God has provided us with an education building that will open soon and we are also sending our student group to SeeSalt Summer Camp 2016. We are excited that Relevant life groups will be starting in just a few weeks.

We ask for your prayers as we approach our official launch date on September 11th, 2016. Our prayer is for Relevant Church to show our community that the church is still relevant in a changing culture. Go to relevantchurchupstate.com for more information.
