Praying for Your Pastor
"'Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.'" Luke 22:31-32
* Pray that he hears from God. "'For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.'" (John 12:49-50)
* Pray that his message is clear and fruit-bearing. For some pastors, hearing from God is not a problem. The difficulty is preparing the message that God has spoken in a manner that reaches people of all walks of life, and crosses racial, denominational, and cultural differences. (1 Thessalonians 1:2-8)
* Pray for him and his family. His family is just as important as your family. Pray for a balance between his ministry and his family life.
* Pray for the ministry. Don't place the entire burden on him to grow the church and win souls for Christ. Ministry is a joint effort. You may not be able to preach, but you can pray. (1 Corinthians 12:4-5)
*Pray for authentic relationships with other pastors.
"Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself. Saul took him that day and did not let him return to his father's house. Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself." (1 Samuel 18:1-3)
