Pastor Leadership
Pastoral Ministries and Bivocational Office

The focus of the Pastoral Ministry and Bivocational Office is on the health and welfare of Pastors in the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

  • We assist pastors and churches in conflict and transition.

  • We develop projects and initiatives to assist pastors, (both fully funded and Bivocational) to be the leaders God intended them to be.

  • We assist and train deacons in the areas of leadership, and personal skill-sets.

  • We introduce new staff and pastors to the work of South Carolina Baptist Convention.

  • We conduct state-wide leadership development events and strategic planning processes.

We are in a huge leadership crisis. Two churches a week lose their pastor in the state of South Carolina. We have got to start working together, utilizing the strengths of everyone to Experience Kingdom Life,” explains Monty Hale, Director of Pastoral Ministries and Bivocational Office."Churches need to realize they cannot reach everyone. We need our partners. Working with other churches and people is the foundation on which this convention was built, and building on that cooperative spirit allows us to reach our Jerusalem and Judea," says Hale. "Churches gather to worship, collect the offering, and pray for the sick, but that is it; we stay confined within our walls. One church cannot reach everyone." One church's strength may be another's weakness, but together we can reach the lost. It's one of our greatest Biblical Models through the Great Commission," encourages Hale. "Yes, we have the privilege to be autonomous within our convention, but it may be what destroys us. Churches have got to find their vision."Our focus for 2011 is assisting leaders of churches to prevent ministerial derailment. "We do not want to come in and pick up the pieces. We want to prevent that leader or pastor from being forced to leave. We offer counseling and workshops on kingdom leadership, learning about spiritual gifts and talents, and using those gifts for a purpose," explains Hale. Courses are available for the entire church family, church staff, pastors' wives, and other key leaders within the church.
