The South Carolina Baptist Convention’s Disaster relief team is preparing relief units across the state to once again assist hurricane-weary Florida.
A disaster relief command center is set up at the Convention’s headquarters, 190 Stoneridge Drive in Columbia. The command center coordinates SC disaster relief units requested by the Southern Baptist Convention to leave for Florida this week.
The Southern Baptist Convention has activated 112 units across 45 state conventions; nine units are from South Carolina. The Southern Baptist Convention activated 207 relief units in Florida in the wake of hurricane Charley’s damage to the western coast.
Types of South Carolina units assisting in relief efforts include assessment, communication, recovery and mobile feeding and shower trucks. Units will be activated from N. Spartanburg, Charleston, Anderson, Lexington, Chesterfield and the Pee Dee region, among others.
