The South Carolina Baptist Convention will host a negotiation workshop on Thursday, April 29, at the convention building in Columbia.
Led by Dr. B.Carlisle Driggers, executive director-treasurer, and Robert Grant, director, church administration and buildings office, the informative workshop will cover negotiation techniques including spiritual preparation, reading and using non-verbal communication, and how to get to “yes.” Pastors, church members, church staff, associational leaders, and directors of missions are invited to attend the event that will help them strengthen their leadership and active listening skills.
Experienced in the art of negotiation, Driggers served on staff at the Home Mission Board (now the North American Mission Board or NAMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention for 13 years prior to coming to the state convention. Through his work, Driggers negotiated planning arrangements, contracts, agreements, and budgets with various state Baptist conventions and other groups.
“The workshop will help attendees learn how to determine agreements and be better prepared to meet those agreements through building relationships of trust,” Driggers said.
Robert Grant has a background in church administration from the local church before coming to the South Carolina Baptist Convention 22 years ago. Most of his service time was spent in the Sunday School department. After South Carolina Baptist Convention staff reorganization in September, 2002 Robert assumed his present position focusing on church administration issues relating to constitution and bylaws, parliamentary procedures, policies, procedures, incorporation, and church staffing. Robert is currently completing his certification as a Church Business Administrator with National Association of Church Business Administrators (NACBA).
