It’s that time of year again. A time when your alarm starts going off at 6:00 in the morning, a time to rise and shine for a new day, and a new year at school. But, for many of the students across South Carolina that participated in youth events this summer they had a chance to relax, get in the word of God and see how they could be used for His kingdom.
This year’s theme for Summersalt was "The Ripple Affect.â?? The goal was to challenge students to think about the decisions they make, and how those decisions can affect the rest of their lives. The drama illustrated this as a group of friends make decisions and have to live with the consequences, both good and bad.
This summer over 1700 youth attended Summersalt. Out of those 1700, 19 gave their life to Christ for the first time; 22 recommitted their lives, and two had a calling for full time ministry.
Steve Rohrlack, Director of the Youth Ministry Group for the SC Baptist Convention said, “Summersalt is a great opportunity to get students out of their normal environment to focus on spiritual things.â??
Another event that many students attended this summer was the “Big Youth Thingâ?? at Paramount’s Carowinds. On July 28, over 4800 people from around the state convened on the park for a day packed full of fun, food and a message of hope.
Participates enjoyed music from Superchick and Salvador. Actor Stephen Baldwin shared his testimony with the crowd. 29 salvations were reported, along with 75 students who made recommitments, and 10 students who were called into vocational ministry.
One attendee said, “The Big Youth Thing is an important event because it is an excellent invest and invite event; where they can invest in relationships and invite them to have fun at Carowinds and also hear the gospel in a relevant way.â??
