We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us. 1 Thessalonians 2:8
Just months after the first mission teams to South Asia arrived back in the US, God is moving among congregations, associations and individuals to set the nations on hearts of South Carolinians.
Project Thessalonica, a long-term strategic mission partnership tool, is assisting churches all over the state to begin working around the world among unreached people groups, specifically in South Asia. The tool is a direct result of churches not being satisfied with simply sending missionaries to go to the nations, but wanting instead to take responsibility for the Great Commission.
As reaching new people groups is pioneering at best, Project Thessalonica is set up to give churches direction, skills and education needed to truly partner with a people who has never heard the Gospel.
“With the greatest number of unreached people groups in South Asia and the least number of International Mission Board personnel being there…what is it going to take to reach South Asia? If we had all the IMB career missionaries [assigned] to South Asia it still would not be enough…The churches are ready,” said Debbie McDowell, Director of the Mission Mobilization Group for the SC Baptist Convention.
Over the next month, you will have the opportunity to read stories about churches and associations who have taken a step of faith and heeded God’s call to the nations. Each group of believers is at a different part of the process, but have determined that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14)
