Messengers approve $34 million budget
Messengers approve $34 million budget

Messengers to the SC Baptist Convention annual meeting today approved a $34 million 2008 budget, a $1.2 million increase over the 2007 budget.

As part of the budget plan, messengers also approved the Cooperative Program Advance Plan which will allocate fifty percent of all future budget increases directly to the Southern Baptist Convention.

The Cooperative Program is the main funding source for the Convention. Churches allocate a percentage of their undesignated funds to the Cooperative Program. The monies received are distributed to the SC Baptist Convention and to the Southern Baptist Convention. Currently South Carolina allocates distributes forty percent to the Southern Baptist Convention with sixty percent staying in state.

The Cooperative Program Advance Plan would increase the amount given to the Southern Baptist Convention as Cooperative Program giving increases. The Southern Baptist Convention funds national and international missionaries.
