Fairview - 40 years later...

In May of 1964, Fairview Baptist Church in Greer, SC had a vision to start a kindergarten class.  The church wanted to be able to provide a Christian setting where children could come and learn about God.  Since then 40 years have passed, and what started out as one kindergarten class with 12 students has now evolved into eight classes, teaching over 100 kids from ages one to four years old in three-and-four-year-old Kindergarten Programs and Mother’s Day Out Programs.

On April 24th, Fairview Baptist observed the 40th Anniversary of the programs during a special worship service.  Former students and teachers, including current ones, were recognized.  Sandra Reed, Weekday Preschool Director, has been involved in this ministry for 20 years.  Reed said, “I have been so blessed by being a part of this ministry.”

Ten years ago when Fairview celebrated the 30th anniversary of the church’s Weekday Ministry, the church complied a brief history of the programs.  In this literature the program is described as “an integral part of the total ministry of the church.  The ministry provides Kindergarten and educational preschool for children ages three and four, and Mother’s Day Out, a supportive ministry to families where mothers remain in the home.  Both of these programs provide a quality program where teachers plan activities to meet the physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual needs of each child.  As these needs are met and Christ’s love is expressed, positive foundations are being built in the lives of young children.”

Fairview Baptist Weekday Ministries still adheres to this same philosophy today.  “As the children come we seek to develop the whole child: physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and most of all, moral/spiritually,” stated Reed.

She adds, “This is what we look forward too everyday.”
