Attending or working this summer at Camp McCall presented many opportunities, such as sky gliding, hiking to waterfalls and natural water slides, or even swimming in some of the most frigid water in the state. Located in the mountainous Sunset community of Pickens, SC, Camp McCall offered the complete camping experience this summer, as always.
Perhaps the most memorable opportunity for some campers was the one to walk the aisle of the hilltop chapel and accept Christ or His call to ministry. More than 600 campers this summer did just that as 428 rededicated their lives to Christ, 129 accepted a call to ministry and 71 invited the Lord into their hearts for the first time.
According to camp director Cliff Satterwhite, many decisions are a result of attending Camp McCall for several consecutive years. “It’s significant to see life changes in campers who have been coming for several years. It’s neat to see a 15-year-old accept a call to ministry who as a 9 year-old camper was homesick his first year of camp” said Satterwhite, who also enjoys seeing campers become camp staff.
Camp McCall unit leader Nathan “Pavlov” Crum, also a Furman University graduate and member of Jones Avenue Church in Easley, was a McCall camper for 12 years, and recently completed his fourth year as a McCall staff member.
Crum along with the rest of the Camp McCall staff adopted a people group in Peru this summer. Many of the staff members recently returned from a mission trip to Peru, and on September 10, Crum departed for a three-month mission trip in Peru. He will return December 6.
Satterwhite said that the staff’s dedication to the group in Peru and to the campers each week of the summer is significant to Camp McCall’s success, particularly during this summer.
Owned and operated by the SC Baptist Convention, Camp McCall offers weekly camps focusing on missions education for boys in grades 1-12. McCall also hosts co-ed camps for high schoolers during various weeks in the camping season.
