Camp La Vida has been hosting campers since 1983, and has special events planned for this season to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Camp La Vida, located in White Oak, SC, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year as the camping season begins. The focus of camp is always missions education, and the theme for this year is “It’s All About You God.”
Camp La Vida opened in 1983, and still thrives today as it offers week camps, minicamps, and mother/daughter overnights for children and youth 1st –12th grades. Since its opening, Camp La Vida has registered 48,813 campers, and 2,251 of those made professions of faith. Campers at Camp La Vida have given over $56,000 through the Cooperative Program.
Over 2200 campers will be in attendance this summer, according to Cindy Skelton, camp director.
“Our goal is that all who attend will have fun as well as be challenged in their missions involvement—their praying, giving, and doing,” Skelton said.
Program guests each summer include state/association missions representatives as well as missionaries serving with the North American Mission Board and the International Mission Board. The Camp La Vida staff will include 38 college-aged Christian women who will serve as unit leaders, cabin leaders, assistant cabin leaders, lifeguards, or recreation leaders. Children in Action and Youth on Mission camp staff are made up of Christian men and women.
Camp La Vida offers a variety of activities such as archery, pottery, adventure recreation, outdoor living skills, swimming, and canoeing.
Current and past staff members from Camp La Vida and Camp Rawls, which preceded La Vida in Wagener, SC, will celebrate La Vida’s anniversary during a gathering at Camp La Vida Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18. Also during the upcoming season, Camp La Vida will kick off the 90th birthday celebration of Girls in Action.
