Administrative Committee approves Worship & Music director
The SC Baptist Convention Executive Board’s Administrative Committee this week approved a recommendation from Dr. Jim Austin to hire Mark Powers as director of the Worship & Music office. Powers is currently serving as Associate Pastor for Music and Worship at First Baptist Church North Augusta.
A graduate of Furman University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Powers brings over twenty years of experience to the Convention. He has served at churches in Aiken, Chester and Florence among others. Powers is also a current member of the South Carolina Singing Churchman.
“It is a wonderful privilege for me to be hired as Director for Worship and Music of the SC Baptist Convention…Following in the footsteps of my good friends Tom Westmoreland and Jim Gill, I pray that my service to the churches will make an eternal difference in the lives of many for the glory of God. I long for your prayers as we journey together,” said Powers.
Powers and his wife Kay have two children, Jeremy, who is a real estate agent in the upstate and Lauren, a piano performance major at North Greenville University.
Powers will begin Jan. 2.
