Darlington -
Since the spring of 1976, the Raceway Ministry of the Welsh Neck Baptist Association, in association with Darlington Raceway, has been conducting a ministry to the racing fans at the Darlington Raceway. Bring-A-Kid Race Day started in 1987 and attendance has grown from 800 to more than 12,000 in years past.
More than 7,800 attended Bring-A-Kid Race Day this year. This event has two purposes—to promote relationships among the children and adults who attend and to participate in evangelism by distributing Gospel tracts.
The rally began at 10:30 a.m. and the race started at 2:00 p.m. The day also included the opportunity to watch the Winston Cup practice that was before the race at noon.
For $10.00 per person, Bring-A-Kid Race Day participants received reserved seats for the race in the Pearson and Tyler Towers and a voucher for a hot dog and drink. Entertainment and guests from the NASCAR community were another exciting part of the afternoon. “CrossCountry The Band, ” from White House, Tennessee provided musical entertainment and Johnny Hunt, evangelist from Woodstock, Georgia, spoke to the crowd where many decisions were made. Also, Tad Geschickter, owner of ST Motor Sports Kingsford Charcoal #59 car, and Jason Keller, member of First Church Travelers Rest and driver of the #57 car, shared testimonies.
This was the last Labor Day Weekend Race due to track rescheduling. At this time it is uncertain of the date of the next Bring-A-Kid Race Day, which will be in March or November.
