The Annual Meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention will be held on Tuesday, November 16, through Wednesday, November, 17, at First Baptist Church Columbia.
Dr. B. Carlisle Driggers, Executive Director-Treasurer, of the South Carolina Baptist Convention said, “Our convention meeting this year will demonstrate the importance of preaching for Kingdom growth. It should be a most inspiring time for everyone. In these days of national and international tensions, we really do need to get together for inspiration and good old fashioned Baptist fellowship. I hope hundreds of our churches will be represented at the annual meeting November 16-17 at First Baptist Church Columbia.”
The Tuesday morning session will begin at 8:45 a.m. and close at 3:55 p.m., with lunch from noon to 1:45 p.m. The Tuesday Evening session will begin at 6:45 p.m. with music from Joe and Suzanne Hopkins. During the Tuesday Evening session, Dr Wayne Dickard, SC Baptist Convention President, will address the messengers.
This year’s theme is “Preaching the Kingdom.” Dr. Wayne Dickard, SC Baptist Convention President, and Pastor at Northbrook Baptist Church, in Boiling Springs said, “I wanted to lead the convention back to its roots. Preaching is one of the greatest tools that God has given us to reach people. I put a high priority on preaching.”
This year marks the annual meeting’s 184th year, and will include worship, business sessions, reports from convention institutions and colleges, and “Ingredients for a Kingdom Focused Church,” the SC Baptist Convention staff exhibit.
“Our approach to the SCBC exhibit this year is to create a one stop shop that engages our guests with useful "hands on" resources. We’ve worked hard to create an environment that offers a personal touch by having the convention staff on-site, available to assists guests with solutions for their existing needs,” said Lara Gopp, Director of Marketing for the SC Baptist Convention.
Other exhibits will be located in the church Fellowship Hall including convention institutions and colleges, the North American Mission Board, the International Mission Board, Annuity and Insurance Services, the LifeWay bookstore and messenger registration.
On Monday Nov. 15, prior to the annual meeting, the SC Baptist Convention Pastors Conference will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce. For more information, click on “annual meeting” at www.scbaptist.org or call church services at (800) 723-7242.
