The task of sharing the Gospel and making disciples in our state, nation and world takes every believer and every church doing their part to fulfill the Great Commission. Are you Missions Engaged?
The task of sharing the Gospel and making disciples in our state, nation and world takes every believer and every church doing their part to fulfill the Great Commission. Even in a state with thousands of evangelical churches, many people in South Carolina (83%) are unchurched. North America is also a tremendous mission field where we must plant more churches and continue making disciples. The Unreached and Unengaged peoples of the world are on the heart of God and many churches have answered the call to embrace them.
What about you personally? Are you engaged in the mission of God? Are you praying for your neighbors, family members and coworkers who do not know the Lord? Are you actively sharing your faith and seeking ways to make disciples? When it comes to missions, are you personally involved? Have you participated in a mission activity outside your own community in the last year? Personally, through your church and association, we must be actively involved in missions. That's what it means to be Missions Engaged.
If you're not engaged in missions personally or if you want to know where to begin, the best place to start is with prayer. Ask the Lord to give you a burden for those who are not yet believers. Pray for opportunities to share your faith. Pray for missionaries and church planters, and that more will be sent.
The next step is discovering what your church is currently doing and what the needs are for missions involvement. There may be a local ministry where you can serve as a volunteer. Or maybe your are called to serve part-time or full-time as a missionary or church planter. Contact your local Baptist Association and the South Carolina Baptist Convention for information about mission opportunities.
After discovery comes preparation. If the Lord is going to use us to accomplish His mission in the world we must be prepared. Learn to share your faith, learn about your spiritual gifts that God can use for ministry and find appropriate training to equip you for missions.
All that's left after you have prayed, discovered and prepared is to go! If you are looking for places to go, we have 10 Kingdom connections that South Carolina Baptist churches support. Our partnership is called "SC Baptists: A Witness to the World." You can access information about it via this web site. Our partners at the International Mission Board and North American Mission Board can facilitate a conneciton outside of the SCBC partnership as needed.
Contact the Missions Mobilization Group via this web site, by phone or e-mail and we will gladly help you become Missions Engaged!
