Bow Hunting with a Purpose

A group of 12 men will be allowed to bow hunt on White Oak Conference Center property on certain dates under certain conditions. This is a great opportunity for Christian men to involve their non-Christian or un-churched friends in a hunting environment for the purpose of reaching their friends for Christ or allowing God's Spirit to work in their lives.

According to Proverbs 27:17, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." This is an excellent "sharpening" environment for men.

Contact melanieratcliffe@scbaptist.org to receive a registration form for bow hunting at White Oak.

Updated Hunting Guidelins are as follows:

1.      Good sportsmanship and ethical behavior is expected. It will make the hunt enjoyable with or without venison in the cooler.

2.      All S.C. laws and license requirements will be followed to the letter.   White Oak Wildlife Management LLC staff will clarify any questions about what is legal.

3.      Respect the land. Littering and damage to trees is not good stewardship and it is also not allowed.

4.      Hunters may harvest only one buck for the 3 day event. Bag limit is 2 deer per day. “Button bucks” count as a buck. Harvest of does is encouraged.

5.      Quality Deer Management (QDM) guidelines are in effect. Bucks should have at least 15 inch outside spread. Antlers should extend outside the ears when the deer is alert. The deer in our area are 3 ½ years old or older when this spread is reached.

6.      A drawing will be held for stands on Monday afternoon. The stand may be left on the tree following the evening hunt on Monday. Stand will be removed after Tuesday mornings hunt and a new drawing will be held before the lunch meal on Tuesday.   Hunters drawing same stand as they already hunted will return number and redraw.  Stands may be left on Tuesday evening and removed after the morning hunt on Wednesday.

7.      Hunters must hunt with a bow that has a draw weight of at least 40lbs and use an arrow tipped with a fixed blade or expandable broad head. No field points.

8.      Crossbows will be allowed for medically or physically impaired hunters.

9.      All reasonable efforts must be made to recover any wounded deer. A track dog is available.

10. WOCC staff will be responsible for transporting hunters to and from sites.
