Read how a church in SC is impacting the lives of the Ashaninca in Peru.
In the highlands of Peru where mountains are covered with jungle, lives a group of people who call themselves the Ashaninca. There are no roads. All travel is by boat. They live a simple life, sleeping in houses made of wooden poles with leaf roofs. Raising yucca gardens, hunting and fishing provide their food. The majority have no access to the Gospel. Because of the remoteness of their villages, medical care is nonexistent and many suffer from parasites and other diseases caused by the lack of clean drinking water and unsanitary practices. Spiritual darkness envelopes the region and causes much suffering as well. Family units face instability and turmoil.
Roebuck Baptist Church is working among the Ashaninca people and has visited several villages to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Many of the Ashaninca are undereducated and have difficulty reading, so the strategy coordinators of Roebuck Baptist adopted a storytelling approach so the people can learn and repeat Biblical truths. A conference for believers will be held in June to teach them more Bible stories with the hope that they will share them in their villages. Many Ashaninca villages are one to three days’ walking distance from the river. Please pray that believers from the villages where Roebuck is working will carry the Gospel to these distant villages.
