Connie Maxwell Children’s Home accepted its first child into care on May 22, 1892. Started as an orphanage by South Carolina Baptists on land donated by J.C. and Sarah Maxwell in memory of their daughter, Connie Maxwell today provides hope for children and families dealing with difficult situations in their lives. This residential childcare ministry is headquartered in Greenwood, with a girls-only shelter care facility in Florence, a residential care facility in Orangeburg, a girls’ home in Mauldin, a crisis facility in Chesterfield, and a counseling office in Summerville.
