NOVA BASIC TRAINING CLASSES OFFERED

Camp McCall, Sunset, South Carolina

South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief (SCDR) will be hosting a National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) Crisis Counseling Training the week of May 3-6, 2010, at the Camp McCall, 108 Ambassador Road, Sunset, South Carolina 29685.  Training will begain at 2 p.m. Monday and conclude at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Participants come from every professional area in South Carolina. 

What to bring: Basic comfortable clothing needs and toiletries for a spring time, mountain-top expericence (this includes a light jacket or sweater).  It does rain there quite often in the spring so bring rain gear.  Also, you will need to bring linen, pillow, and blanket for your bed or a sleeping bag will do. You will also need writing materials (pen/pencil, paper).

Cost: $400.00 for the week (includes training and materials, housing and meals)

NOTE: Very limited cell phone coverage and NO wireless computer hook-ups on the mountain

 Linked, you will find a schedule of what you will be involved in during the NOVA training.  This training will prepare you to be called on to respond to a catastrophic crisis such as school shootings, plane crashes, or other multiple death crises.  South Carolina sent four disaster chaplain teams to New York after the 9/11 event, Sri Lanka tsunami, hurricanes Katrina and Ike, tornadoes, floods, air crashes, and school shootings and many, many, other critical areas in need of crisis counseling.  For the Basic Training Agenda, click here: Basic Agenda

Participants will be housed for the week at Camp McCall.  Meals will be provided.  Housing and meals are included in the cost.
