Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Discussion Guide for Parents & Leaders

This discussion guide related to the Percy Jackson books and recently-released movie was written by Dr. Thomas Sanders of Dallas Baptist University, along with his fifteen-year-old son Kyle.

Dr. Sanders states, “I am not endorsing this book, but attempting to help parents whose children read the book or see the movie deal with issues from the content. I would not recommend this book or movie for preschoolers or younger children. The book is not an attack on Christianity, but it does create opportunities for questions about our faith and our belief in the one true God of the Bible.”

“Some might argue that children will miss the issues of polytheism,” Dr. Sanders continues, “but the other risk is that they may quietly adopt these views into their own worldview.  With this article, parents can have positive conversations with their older children and preteens when the occasion arises.”
