At that age, children are not developmentally able to sit still and pay attention to a formal teaching presentation. Since preschoolers are active learners, the most effective way to teach them is through the learning center approach. As they play in the homeliving area, the block area, and other learning centers, the conversation and Bible thoughts shared by the teacher constitute the “lesson.” For three-five year olds, you may add a brief group time where you tell a Bible story, sing, pray, and guide a follow-up activity with the children. Remember, a preschooler’s attention span is one minute per year of age!
