Why should small churches do background screening on workers when everybody knows everyone else?
Because you cannot assume to know the private lives of even close neighbors, background screening is an important safeguard to protect the children in your church from abuse. Abuse occurs in churches small and large. Church-adopted screening policies that are applied equally to all workers with minors will help to insure that children are as safe as possible when they are under the care and teaching of the church.
