What is this I hear about children not being able to ride in the church's van any more?
In
South Carolina , “Jacob’s Law” specifies that any entity transporting children to and from school, school-related activities, and child care must use a vehicle that meets federal school bus standards. Vans currently owned by the church may be used until July 1, 2006. After that date, they may not be used. The problem with 15-passenger vans is their high rollover rate and their inability to handle side impacts. Even if your church does not have a child care program, you are urged to “take the high road” to ensure the safety of those transported in church vehicles. The bottom line is: 15-passenger vans are not safe for carrying passengers!
