A person must be a member of the church for at least six months before they can serve in the preschool, children, or youth ministry. Although it is unsettling to think that sexual abuse might occur in a church, the reality is that it does happen. Churches are easy targets for pedophiles because we are trusting and we welcome any who volunteer to help. The six-month policy can help reduce the risk of child molestation occurring in the church, because most pedophiles will not want to wait six months to gain access to children.
