What is "activity teaching"?

People of all ages learn best when they are active participants in the learning process. Preschoolers, for example, learn as they play. In the preschool classroom, we choose toys and materials to include in the learning centers based on our teaching goal for the session. We give a spiritual emphasis to their play through conversation, use of the Bible, teaching pictures, and prayers. For school-age children, hands-on activities are chosen to relate to the Bible teaching. Teachers use the activity to guide the children to think through what the Bible story teaches and how they can incorporate that teaching into their lives.
