How do you teach a child who is a "verbal learner"?

This child enjoys using language in all forms, both spoken and written, and has a large vocabulary. He enjoys telling and listening to stories, reading, and writing. Teachers can encourage learning by:

  • Providing a variety of books in the classroom
  • Guiding older preschoolers and school-agers in learning activities that involve writing, such as a litany, poem, story, or chant
  • Introducing new words and explaining their meaning
  • Providing role-playing experiences
  • Using songs with repetitive phrases (such as “Jesus Loves Me”) with preschoolers
