This child enjoys using language in all forms, both spoken and written, and has a large vocabulary. He enjoys telling and listening to stories, reading, and writing. Teachers can encourage learning by:
- Providing a variety of books in the classroom
- Guiding older preschoolers and school-agers in learning activities that involve writing, such as a litany, poem, story, or chant
- Introducing new words and explaining their meaning
- Providing role-playing experiences
- Using songs with repetitive phrases (such as “Jesus Loves Me”) with preschoolers
