How do you teach a child who is a "musical learner"?

This child likes to be surrounded by sound, tap out a beat when thinking, sing and listen to music, and play with rhythms. Teachers can encourage learning by:

  • Providing musical instruments for the children to use
  • Playing background music as preschoolers play in learning centers or children work on learning activities
  • Teaching age-appropriate songs that relate to the unit of study
  • Clapping rhythms (school-age children can learn a memory verse by saying it in rhythm)
  • Having children draw illustrations for songs or words in songs
