How do I choose a Bible for my school-age child?
There are a number of features to consider in choosing a Bible. Among them are:
- Translation – the best translations for children combine reliability with readability.
- Study helps – children are interested in the customs or lifestyles of people in the Bible, maps, charts, and other helps.
- Theological and doctrinal soundness – make sure that the study helps are in line with what the Bible teaches. Unfortunately, some children’s Bibles can actually be inaccurate in their “helps,” teaching, for example, that to become a Christian you must love God and obey His commands.
- Realistic illustrations – because people and stories in the Bible are true, pictures in the Bible should be as realistic as possible.
