Children can have good worship experiences when adults prepare them adequately to participate in worship. Before Sunday, talk to your child about what you will see and do in the worship service. Teach him to whisper if he has something to tell you, but help him to learn that in church we do not talk unless it is absolutely necessary. Make sure your child is dressed in clothes that are not scratchy or irritating. Take your child to the water fountain and restroom before the service, even if he doesn’t think he “has to go.” Plan to have quiet activities, such as crayons or chenille stems, available if the child gets restless.
